Part 3 - Pump Controller OperationThe pump controller must be able to operate in two modes – the “A” mode, and the “B” mode. The “A” mode watches the home water pressure switch, and turns on the water tank pump to pressurize the house water. It also monitors the water level in the tank, and if necessary, turns on the well pump to fill the water tank. Priority is given to the water demand of the house – if the house needs water while the tank is filling, the controller will turn off the well pump, and turn on the tank pump. Once the pressure is restored, the tank pump will turn off, and the controller will continue to fill the water tank. The “B” mode is to pump directly from the well to the house. In this mode, as before, the house water pressure switch is used to cycle the well pump on and off. NOTE that if the valves are set in a position which doesn’t match the controller e.g. Valves set to “B”, controller set to “A”, that it’s possible to over-pressurize the piping and cause a pipe or joint to burst. An overpressure device can be added somewhere between the well pump and the first valve.
