Lake Chelan Fishing Trip - June 2007

It's not all work and no play! Celebrating the end of the kids' school for 2007, we decided to go to Lake Chelan, Washington for a fishing trip.  It was our first trip, despite being in Washington for nearly 16 years.

Lake Chelan has a number of species to fish for, including (the ones we were interested in) Lake Trout and Kokanee.

We arranged to go fishing with Darrel and Son's Guide service (here's their web site) Darrel and sons guides   -- and stayed in their 'Fisherman's hideaway' as well.  The boat was a 25' 'cuddy' cabin, which the kids found a lot of fun to play in, and also helped with the wind.

Captain Anton and Crew Member Andy were very helpful, showing not only the what, but also the why -- helpful with children who ask a lot of questions! Cap'n Anton fishes year round -- in March they were catching 20+ pound lakers!

He seems well known on the Lake -- the Lady of the Lake boat 'tooted' to see his our catch as they went by up-lake on the way to Stehekin. Captain Anton had to pull Caroline's fish out of the cooler to show them.

The weather was nearly perfect -- almost 80 degrees, sunny, a bit of breeze (not TOO much initially)...

and we found some fish... First a great-for-eating-size Kokanee (landlocked Sockeye salmon):

Caroline landed the biggest lake trout of all that day, nearly 12 pounds (the record is 35 lbs, 7oz)

Charlie and Sam also caught a lake trout, and good time was had by all.
